Soccer Practice

Katerina doesn't have practice during the week since she's in bumblebee soccer. So we need to practice at home. To do that, we need a goal. But goals are expensive, so Daddy and Katerina built one instead.

Katerina Update

Katerina had her stitches removed on Friday. Her owie is looking much better. Her doctor gave her the ok to play soccer too, so she's very excited about that.

First stitches at the Magoffins

We consider ourselves pretty lucky to have gone over 4 years with kids in the house and have never had to make a trip to the ER. Today, that luck ran out. We were going through a rather uneventful Sunday. There was less than an hour left of church before we got our first taste of parents-in-emergency mode. I was sitting in priesthood when a member of the primary presidency came in asking for Brother McKenna. Not exactly close, but I knew it was for me. I figured it was a poopy diaper or a bathroom run that I needed to help with. I couldn't see her and went out through another door only to find this woman covered in blood. She informed me that my daughter had fallen and was going to need some stitches. So off we ran to primary where Katerina is in Dawn's arms, crying inconsolably, surrounded by other woman with blood on them. She had managed to trip while running through a door and smack her forehead into a corner of the frame. She's got a nice gash on her forehead, straight up and down, right in t he middle. Luckily, the primary president is a nurse and was able to stop the bleeding and put a temporary patch on Katerina. I grabbed Eleni out of nursery and off we all went to instacare. We got checked in, and the girls watched Gnomeo and Juliet while we waited for our turn. First Katerina got a numbing gel, then we all headed back for her stitches. I intended to have Dawn and Eleni wait in the waiting room, but Dawn wanted to come back. It's a good thing she did. I had planned on being the brave one who would hold Katerina while the doctor sewed her up, but I didn't even get that far. While the nurse was cleaning out the wound, I started to sweat profusely and got really light-headed. I'm pretty sure I was within 30 seconds of passing out, so I sat down and Dawn traded places with me (this is why I went into engineering and not medicine). Katerina was super brave and kept saying that the procedure tickled. She never cried the whole time we were there except when she found out she couldn't go back to her primary class. She got a blue popsicle for being so tough and Eleni got a purple one for being such a good sister. She kept telling the nurses that her sister got a big owie and she was going to take care of her. When we got home, Katerina and Eleni played for the afternoon like they do everyday, as if one of them didn't just crack her head open. We also got phone calls and visits from home teacher, bishop, primary, and family. Nice to be loved and grateful that Katerina will be ok. If we can keep our ER visits to once every 4 years, I'll be happy.
Super brave girl
